The CARICOM Secretariat is currently undertaking an “Assessment of the Needs of Consumer Organizations in CARICOM Member States” project which is part of the European Union funded Caribbean Integration Support Programme. The main objective of the project is “to contribute to the intensification of regional integration by strengthening consumer bodies”. The project will identify opportunities for the advancement and promotion of the welfare of consumers which include looking specifically at the region’s approach to completion policy and the development of a model consumer protection law for the CARICOM member states.

Mr. John Lawrance, a consumer affairs expert appointed by CARICOM, will be in Belize on November 12th, 13th and 16th to carry out a needs assessment of the consumer organizations within Belize. To contribute to the success of the project, the Belize Bureau of Standards is extending an invitation to trade unions, trade associations, and NGO’s have an interest in meeting with the expert to contact Ms. Kenisha Stuart or Ms. Samantha Budna at the Belize Bureau of Standards, Power Lane, Ministry of Works Compound, Belmopan City or call us at 822-0446/0447 or email bbs@btl.net.
